Psychotherapist
Marriage & Family Therapist
Welcome to my “village". It’s a cozy space where we forge change… whether it’s a calmer heart, a more focused mind, stronger relationships, or healing from the past.
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and a Marriage and Family Therapist since 1997.
My therapy is about connections… Together, we make links between past pain and present reactions, releasing old beliefs and fears to make room for real change. We vitalize relationships and restore connections to your worth, breath, and voice. We craft space for new ideas, for compassion and resilience, and healthy habits. We learn to harness and heal your nervous system and discover the joy of presence.

Psychotherapy can be many things; from restructuring thought processes to healing from pain; from exploring the origins of emotional triggers to practical parental coaching; from a refreshing wake-up call to a soft shoulder to lean on. I use a variety of therapies I’ve trained in over the years, and your therapy is geared to your particular needs.
My most common areas of focus are:
- relationships
- anxiety
- depression
- parenting
- anger/aggression
- trauma
- sleep disorders
- children’s issues (ADHD, focus)
- brain injury/epilepsy
I’ve had specialized training in:
- Marriage and Family Therapy
- EEG Neurofeedback
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Attachment Therapy
- Children’s Mental Health
- Aggression

Go virtual! I use a secure video platform called OWL that meets strict Canadian standards for privacy. It allows me to work with you one-on-one, or from several locations (couples, families or groups).
Please feel free to browse through my videos that focus on learning pieces (like how to ground yourself, how to resolve conflict and understanding triggers).
You can email me with any questions, or you can sign on as a client. I have a waitlist, but while on the waitlist you will have access to certain services. I look forward to working with you!

“My 14 year-old son is like a different person without depression.”
after 7 sessions
“My whole family has received EEG neurofeedback with Lynda. My children, 7, 9, 11 (from 7-15 sessions) say they feel better, and are calmer. They struggle with anxiety as do I and I am an advocate for this training as I notice a difference in my ability to relax. It has also helped my husband with his anger and tension (20 sessions). I see all of my children have become more confident in who they are and how they react to the people and experiences around them in such a positive way. I believe the training also helps to build resilience and perspective. The training is not invasive in anyway and only encourages your brain to reward itself through a video game.”
P, 40, anxiety, after 30 sessions
“I highly recommend Neurofeedback; it helped me calm myself and my thoughts. I am no longer ruled by fear, and I’m a much happier person as a result. I can do everyday things that I couldn’t do before because of panic and fear. Seeing Lynda for these therapies has been life changing for me.”
A, Female, 40’s, trauma history, transgender, after 20 sessions
“I appreciated the way Lynda used gentle questioning and quiet contemplation to guide me. She is easy to talk to, and her knowledge, empathy and sense of humour make her a therapist I highly recommend”
Chris, 55
“When I came to see Lynda, I was desperate, I could hardly get out of bed in the morning never mind trying to get through my day. I was exhausted all the time, could not focus on starting or completing any goals, work or chores, it was having a huge impact on my life. I was really beginning to feel that this was how I would be living the rest of my life. After neurofeedback, I am now back to being MYSELF I do not want people to think that this is a cure for everything but it certainly gave me my life back. What’s so remarkable is that a year later I still feel great. Sure, I will have a day here and there when I am off my mark, but neurofeedback is a wonderful tool that will enhance any mental health challenges that make so many people suffer.”
D, 60, depression, a year after 22 sessions
“Lynda is a gifted therapist. Her compassion and insight opened-up safe and natural conversations where all barriers dissolved. Through careful questions, gentle reminders, special permissions, and personal compliments Lynda guided me through very complicated life issues. In the end, Lynda taught me how connection, communication and confidence can fill my bucket with a happy life.”
Heidi
“Why isn’t everyone doing this? I didn’t realize how close I was to falling off the edge until Lynda pulled me back. Honestly, I didn’t think it was possible to have solid footing on any ground. It’s not just that I couldn’t get a handle on things but it seemed that until neurofeedback there were no handles! Neurofeedback is an accelerated treatment for de-accelerating the affects of trauma. Over time I can finally stand still long enough to realize I can still stand.”
W, female, 60, trauma history, after 22 sessions
“Lynda Martens has a kind and compassionate approach to helping her clients. She has helped me strategize and put into perspective some very difficult issues.”
Male, 47
“I am SO glad that I’m doing Neurofeedback. After 6+ treatments within the past couple of weeks, I have noticed massive cognitive improvements. I am able to focus fully throughout a sports game, movie, tv show, without needing to scroll through my phone or zone out without paying attention. I can pay attention to the tv while also hearing side conversations. It feels like I've had fuzzy vision for years and each session, the world I see gets more clear. I can drift off to sleep within minutes vs hours. I would definitely recommend it, even for those that think they don't have focus issue (that was me)”
Female, 20's

You’re a Marriage and Family Therapist. Do you also work with individuals?
Of course! I have a speciality in working with couples and families, but I do a lot of work with individuals.
What are your qualifications?
I have been a practicing Master’s level Marriage and Family Therapist since 1997 (University of Guelph).
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (member #003117).
I am registered with the Canadian Registry of Marriage and Family Therapists, and I am a clinical member of both the American and Ontario Associations of Marriage and Family Therapy (member # 70443).
Over the years, I’ve had a lot of additional training in these areas, plus more:
- EEG Neurofeedback
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Attachment Therapy
- Children’s Mental Health/Parenting
- Aggression/Power and Control Issues
- Alpha/Theta Training (a specialized for of Neurofeedback that treats addiction and other things)
How much therapy will I need?
It varies widely, and it’s up to you. Some people find that just one session gives them the clarity they were looking for. Others benefit from a longer piece of work, say 6-8 sessions. The majority of my clients use about 3-4 sessions to address their concerns, but in some situations I might work with someone for years.
We end when you are ready to end. Because you book your own appointments, there’s never pressure to rebook.
The exception is if we’re doing Neurofeedback. I require a minimum commitment of ten sessions, and while some feel they’re happy with their results at that point, most continue on. If you’re doing NFB with me, you should be prepared to commit to a longer process.
How will I know if you’re the right therapist for me?
I believe the most vital part of therapy is a strong, trusting and energized relationship between us.
Most people know pretty quickly whether it’s a good fit once they meet a therapist, but I understand that you don’t want to incur a lot of cost by shopping around. If you watch some of my videos, you’ll get a sense of my style, or you can book a shorter session (30 minutes, and this can be virtual) at a lower cost to get a feel for how I work.
What about fees?
Because my services and fees shift from time to time, this specific information is available once you sign on as a client through the OWL portal. Or, you can email me to see what my current rates are.
I do have a sliding scale available for people who qualify for this based on their household income.
You may have employee health benefits that cover my fees (see the next FAQ for more details).
Sessions are 30 or 50 minutes long, but if you would like to contract for more time, this is possible.
Will my benefits cover it?
If you have benefits, then most probably the answer is yes. If your employer has health benefits that cover psychotherapy (that part is important; I’m not a Social Worker or Psychologist), then my services are covered. You will pay me, and then you’ll submit the claim with the receipt I provide.
Third Party Benefits:
I am approved to provide rehabilitation services for HCAI (automobile accident insurance claims).
I am a provider of mental health services for NHIB (Indigenous Services Canada, Non-Insured Health Benefits).
